Nebraska History Day Michael Berg Memorial Award

For more than twenty-five years the National History Day program has promoted systemic educational reform related to the teaching and learning of history in America’s schools. It is a year-long education program that engages students in grades 6-12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. Students produce dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits, multimedia documentaries, interactive websites, and research papers based on research related to an annual theme. These projects are then evaluated at local, state, and national competitions.

The Michael Berg Memorial Award goes to the 1st place senior individual documentary winner of each annual Nebraska state competition in memory of Michael’s enthusiastic energy that spawned the History Day tradition at Zoo School. Michael produced three documentaries covering the Nebraska state capitol, the Continental Railroad, and the Nebraska Senator, George Norris. Over the years, dozens of Zoo School students have produced original documentaries, papers, performances, and exhibits for the History Day event.

at Colorado College

Description by Colorado College:
The Courtney Cusick Memorial Prize was created in 2003 in memory of anthropology major Courtney Cusick, who died tragically in an automobile accident in January 2002.
